This week, Reception were very excited to visit the school pond. The children saw lots of frog spawn and some frogs too. The children talked all about what they could see and learnt about the life cycle of a frog. Reception will be checking back at the pond weekly to see the changes and cannot wait to see the frog spawn develop into tadpoles and then, grow into baby frogs.
When the children arrived at school on Monday this week, they discovered that the caterpillars had been very busy over the weekend and had become chrysalides. We transferred them into our special butterfly nets and the children are waiting with anticipation for their amazing transformation into butterflies.
Over the week, Reception have been learning all about the events of Holy Week and how these events lead up to Easter Sunday. The children learnt that Good Friday is a very sad time but that God had a big plan and that this leads to an extremely happy time when Jesus rises on Easter Sunday. The children used role play to re-enact some of the Holy Week events and used their creative skills to make artistic representations of the stories.
The children have continued to think of the ways that they can prepare for the important day of Easter Sunday by praying and giving to others. Reception were so excited to have the opportunity to give to others and spend their change at our Change for Change Event. The children thoroughly enjoyed perusing the stalls and picking up some incredible bargains, challenging themselves in different activities and sampling some tasty treats. The best bit is – it was all to raise money towards the charities that the Year 5 and 6 children had selected.
And finally, not forgetting a very special visitor we had in Reception this week too… THE EASTER BUNNY! What a wonderful addition to a brilliant week.
