This week, the whole school celebrated equality and diversity by donning odd socks. Year 6 considered the impact of cyber-bullying as a way of exploring our differences.
In Religion, the children have been using the Lectio Divina form of prayer to really engage with church readings at this time of year. This week, the children meditated over Paul’s letter to the Corinthians and asked how it affects them and their daily lives. Father Pat’s visit this week allowed the children to explore this prayer form further.
This week’s Current Affairs tied in with the launch of the, now legendary, John Lewis Christmas advert. The children debated whether Christmas adverts were ‘just good festive fun’ or just out to ‘persuade us to spend more money’. They analysed the use of well-known songs, adorable pets doing silly things and how the characters themselves can sometimes sell for as much as £100 – check out the penguin from an advert a couple of years ago.
Year 6 are currently reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ by John Boyne. It’s an enjoyable read with a powerful message which the children are discovering slowly, but surely. This week, they considered the relationship the young boy has with his father. In doing so, they turned the chapter into a script (adding in their own words and phrases) and performed them. The videos of these performances will be live on Seesaw shortly.
Homework Friday 17th November
- Maths – We have given you a Maths worksheet to practise fractions.
- Times tables – Continue to practise your times tables for our weekly tables test. Practise these by chanting through them, going to the Times Tables songs on Mathletics, asking someone to test you, testing yourself, using look-cover-write-check, playing on ‘Hit the Button’ on Topmarks or J2Blast.
- Spellings – Please learn spellings for a test next week. Use Look, Cover, Spell, Check. We would then like you to use each of the spellings in a sentence. Try to make it an exciting sentence with correct punctuation. You will need to find out the meaning of the word first.
- English – Read chapter 10 from our class reader. Summarise the main points from the chapter and predict what you think might happen next. Explain why you believe this will happen.
Homework will be given out each Friday and is due to be returned the following Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend.
