This week in Nursery we have been exploring the book ‘The Runaway Chapatti’ we looked at what culture the story is from. We learnt that the story is from India and is similar to the story ‘The Gingerbread Man’ from America. We looked at pictures of different buildings and places in India and the kinds of food people may eat. The children had a lovely time making their own raita from a recipe and were very brave in trying it with a chapatti.
The children also made their own chapattis, they first used different sized circles to make a circle and then using different materials they created their own chapatti man. They also used playdough with googly eyes and sticks to create chapattis.
The children made marks to create their own story map of the Runaway Chapatti story.
They had fun retelling the story using the small world props and masks.
In Maths this week we have been exploring the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. The children learnt that 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are fat. We also went on a shape hunt to look for everyday 3D objects in our environment.
It has been a fun filled week and we look forward to next week.
