Reception had an amazing time celebrating World Book Day! A special highlight of the day was a visit from the Year 4 children, who joined us to read stories. It was an amazing experience to have the older children come and share their love of reading with the children. The focus text for the day was Jack and the Beanstalk! Everyone got creative by designing their own magical beans, each with a unique power. Then, we read Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk and compared the two stories, spotting similarities and differences along the way. To finish off the fantastic day, children were invited to designed their own book covers, letting imaginations run wild. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the magic of books and storytelling!
Reception children have also become AMAZING mathematicians! This week they have been looking at all the different ways the number 7 can be made. Some children ever rose to the challenge and wrote the number sentences.
On Tuesday, we celebrated Pancake Day! We learnt about the meaning behind it and then enjoyed some tasty pancakes of our own – topped with our favourite toppings! They were delicious! We also completed some pancake orders by reading what toppings to put on.
On Wednesday, the rest of the school attended Mass for Ash Wednesday, but because we didn’t go, the school chaplains came to visit us and applied the ashes onto our foreheads. It was a special and meaningful experience for us.
