This week Reception have continued learning about who helps us in our community. Our focus this week was on medical staff who help us. We discussed how doctors help us by keeping us fit and healthy and learnt about all of the different items they need in their bags. We talked about the transport they used and used 2D shapes to create ambulances. The children loved role playing the different healthcare jobs in our role play area and used their imaginations as they rescued one another and transported each other to our very own St Joseph’s hospital and doctor’s surgery.
Our focus in Maths this week was repeating patterns. Reception created different patterns using a variety of colours, objects, shapes and sizes.
The children have continued to work hard in our Phonics sessions. This week the children began applying all the sounds that they have learnt to spell new words.
At the end of the week, Reception had a very special visitor – Bruno the guide dog. Bruno came to visit our classes and we learned all about how he and other guide dogs help people who cannot see. The children loved meeting Bruno and were very clam and gentle when stroking him. It is safe to say that Bruno loved meeting Reception too, his tail did not stop wagging and he even rolled over for some special tummy rubs from the boys and girls in Reception.
