This week, Reception have continued learning about our theme ‘Space’ and the children have been particularly interested in learning about the Solar System and the planets.
Reception created model planets using a variety of materials to represent the different colours and conditions of each of the planets.
Some Reception children were inspired to continue learning about the different planets and their characteristics during their independent learning and even created posters to display in our classrooms and show what they had learnt. They then used their Phonics skills to sound out and label the planets that they included in their posters.
Over the week, Reception practised their fine motor skills by using wool to design and create their own planets. The children focused on tightly wrapping the wool around to cover the planet and securing it with tape. They talked about the colours that they used and explained the characteristics of their planets.
Reception also worked on developing their fine motor skills in a creative activity involving tearing and cutting tissue paper this week. The used the tissue paper to create a background for their silhouette artwork . They then practised their scissor skills to carefully cut out space themed silhouette and add them to their art. The Reception children were able to spend lots of time focusing on this activity and were very proud of the art that they produced.
Finally, Reception ended the week with a visit from some pupils from Year 5 who came to share their wonderful Space projects with us. The children listened carefully as they spoke about their posters and models and were able to ask questions all about what they had created. Thank you very much Year 5 for sharing your space expertise with Reception.
