What a first week back Reception have had! It is safe to say that the children have fully immersed themselves in their new theme “Into the Woods” and excitedly engaged with the activities set for them.
The children started the week listening to our focus text “Little Red” in our school Treehouse. The children listened closely to the story and cheered when Little Red Riding Hood escaped from the Big Bad Wolf.
After the story, Reception then went over to explore the Woodlands and investigate whether they could spot the Big Bad Wolf lurking amongst the trees. When they couldn’t find him, we decided that it would be a good idea to make Wanted posters to try to catch him and the children challenged themselves by writing words to describe the wolf.
The children also used their senses to describe the woodlands and eagerly talked about the things that they noticed and what they could see and hear in the environment. The children used different media to create artwork representing the autumn trees that they observed and talked about the different colours of the leaves.
Another highlight of the week was when the teachers treated the children to a performance of our key text “Little Red Riding Hood”. The children took their seats in our Outdoor Theatre and enthusiastically joined in as Little Red Riding Hood questioned the Big Bad Wolf about his big ears, eyes and teeth. The teachers were even given a standing ovation!
Finally, we finished the week off with Stay and Play and the children proudly shared some of our activities from over the week with their grown ups who enjoyed them just as much as the children.
What a fantastic start to this half term, Reception. We can’t wait for more fun learning over the coming weeks!
