This week in Reception, we have continued our learning on ‘Euro 2021’ by talking about Poland. We have a teacher at school, Mrs Suliga, who comes from Poland- so she and her daughter very kindly came to share some Polish stories, food and party games with us. We learned all about the story behind the Polish flag and how it got its red and white colours, and tried some delicious Polish treats, including ‘Ptasie Mleczko’ (chocolate with marshmallow inside) and kissel (a fruity jelly). We also made some beautiful Polish paper cuttings, just like traditional Gwiazy art. Some of our Polish families contributed their own fantastic videos, which we used to learn some Polish words, hear the national anthem, and hear one of our favourite stories, ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ in Polish.
We have continued to do a great job of tracking the changes in our caterpillars! They are all still cocooned up for now, but we are hoping to find some beautiful butterflies when we come back to school next week!
In Maths, we have been enjoying lots of learning around spatial reasoning, using prepositional language to explain where one thing is in relation to another, and to copy models from images or our friends’ descriptions. We have had lots of fun using Unifix cubes, Octons, Mobilo and more to do this! We also enjoyed a very special Zoom Maths lesson from the ‘Maths on Toast’ team, where we made our own shapes to tesselate.
Finally, on Thursday, we enjoyed a visit to Year 1 to see our new classrooms and playground, and meet some of our new teachers! We heard some lovely stories there and all felt very happy thinking about all the exciting new changes coming our way in September.
We wish you all a wonderful weekend!
