Last week Year 1 had a fabulous day at the Victoria and Albert Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green. We started our day with an exciting coach ride as we spotted some sites along the way.
When we arrived we were treated to a ‘Toys From the Past’ teaching session by one of the historians at the museum. We had a chance to learn about some the oldest toys in the museum and even had a go at playing with some. We also made our own ‘peg dolls’ using material and wooden washing line pegs. The historian was so impressed with all the fantastic facts the children already knew.
After our session we began to explore the museum and we had so much fun! We found so many old toys and even had a ride on a rocking horse. Our challenge was to find the oldest toy in the museum which was from Ancient Egypt- it was called the ‘paddle doll’! We even found a real pirate ship in the museum and had a super swashbuckling time exploring it.
Thank you to all the parent helpers who volunteered on the trip. Have a look at what we got up to!
