This week we have been celebrating Lunar New Year. We started by reading our key text: ‘Maisy’s Chinese New Year’. We looked at a range of beautiful clothes, artefacts and decorations – and we learnt that 2025 is the year of the snake.
We made fabulous dragons and snakes from playdough, and made lanterns on the creative table. We made some oriental buildings with our bamboo construction and used tweezers to pick up decorations in our Funky Fingers area.
We made some noodles that we tried to pick up with chopsticks!
We learnt the story of the Chinese Zodiac, then acted it out in the Woodlands area.
We did a wonderful job of moving like each animal across the river when instructed to by the emperor. We even had a go at Chinese Calligraphy both on paper and on the interactive whiteboard.
On Thursday we were lucky to have one of our parents visit us to talk to us about Lunar New Year in the Philippines. She showed us some wonderful photos and videos of her family celebrations, and we had a go at saying ‘Happy New Year’ in her home dialect. What a busy, colourful week it has been!
