Nursery arrived on Monday to find a fox and a gingerbread man hiding in the classroom. We discovered that our book of the week is ‘The Gingerbread Man’. We learnt about ginger and investigated the root and powder forms. We smelled and tasted a little root ginger if we were brave enough. We acted out the story and we ‘hot-seated’ several of the characters to find out how they were feeling. On Tuesday we came back to find more mysterious ‘goings on’! The class had been messed up! We looked for clues and smelling ginger on the floor led to our suspicion it might be The Gingerbread man! We then looked at a pretend security camera video that showed gingerbread men in our classroom!
We then created Gingerbread men in many forms – such as painting, collage and ginger playdough. We counted spots on gingerbread men and fed them to the fox. We did eventually find some gingerbread men hiding in our cupboard! We all chose how to decorate them with icing and then ate them just like the fox did! We also investigated what would happen if we really did put one of our gingerbread men in the water!
