The children did a fabulous job of settling into the new term. When they arrived, they found an enormous globe and a special carpet hanging in the air. They discussed where they might have come from and what our new learning may entail.
They soon discovered our new theme is ‘A taste of the World’ and the flying carpet belongs to ‘Granny’ in our first book of the term: ‘My Granny went to market’. We talked about all the countries she flew to and where we would go if we had a magic carpet. We explored markets from around the world and even made a bed for Granny for the end of her trip.
We made some beautiful carpets using a variety of materials such as collage, paint and playdough.
We learnt about the food Granny might have had in Istanbul, and decided to make some of our own. We made a tasty houmous which we ate with real Turkish bread.
In maths we helped Granny count her souvenirs and match them to the correct numerals. We also added the correct number of people onto the number carpets.
We were especially excited this week to explore our new role play areas: Pearl Class has an exciting new ferry port and shop; whilst White class have been busy ordering food in their own world café.
