Nursery had a wonderful morning when going on their first school trip: a local area walk. We were lucky enough to have quite a few parents to help us, and we were all amazed at how many wonderful things there are to see just a short walk from our school! As we left the school there were already interesting houses, attic windows and flowers to see. We stopped at our church and first looked at all the exciting windows we could see – we spotted quite a few shapes we have been learning about! We took some group photos at the front of the church, before heading up the hill.
We learnt some history on the way – talking about the cattle drinking well, an old telephone box and high pavements (designed for horse carriages). We then arrived at Lauderdale House where we were particularly excited by the mosaics. We marvelled at the size of a tree in the grounds, and spotted lots of circles – including a fountain!
Then we went into Waterlow Park – first seeing the ducks on the pond as well as some beautiful signs of autumn. We investigated a community garden, lots of different, special trees and plants – and even the shape of a duck in one of the trees! It was then time to come back to school for a drink and a snack. What a wonderful way to experience Autumn in our local area!
