Nursery had a wonderful time this week reading ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We made some wonderful pig masks and used straw, sticks and collage bricks to make 2D and 3D houses for the pigs. We explored colour mixing to produce the pink we needed for the pigs, and even made pigs out of 2D shapes! We made playdough pigs and acted out the story with masks, props and small world figures. We looked closely at some new materials and discussed which would be the best material to make houses when exploring in the construction area. We also learnt about different types of homes from around the world.
We enjoyed retelling the story and did some wonderful partner work when sequencing the story. We wrote what the characters say in speech bubbles and helped the police to make a ‘Wanted’ poster. We helped describe him, and looked out for him all week!
We built walls using ‘cement’ for the brick house in our ‘Funky fingers’ area, and played a fantastic turn-taking game: ‘Muddy Pigs’ on the maths table – where we used a dice to count out muddy cubes onto our pigs.
