The children have been learning about Italy this week and have discovered that some of their favourite foods originate from there. We read our key text ‘Pete’s a pizza’ and created exciting pizzas from collage and playdough.
We also made flags, Venetian carnival masks and our own towers of Pisa!
We experimented with dough, and observed the effects of cooking and adding various materials to it. We made some delicious pizzas and talked about the Italian ingredients we added to them. We learnt how pasta is made and had a go at sorting tricolour pasta with our tweezers.
In maths we added 2 different toppings to a big pizza and then added them altogether to find the total.
As the children have been interested in volcanos, we talked about the volcanos associated with Italy and created our own volcano experiments with very exciting results!
We had a very exciting end to the week – when we met the Olympic athlete Montell Douglas – who has won a gold medal for Great Britain. As well as talk to us about how to succeed in sport she led an amazing circuit training session in the playground. We all did a fantastic job of joining in!
