Nursery have had an exciting week discovering more adventures under the sea. The children came in on Monday to discover a couple of sparkly fish tails in their classroom! Some of them suggested they might belong to a mermaid.
We then read our key text: ‘The Little Mermaid’. We did a great job of retelling the story, and acting it out with masks and figures in the small world area.
We made some stunning decorative mermaids with the playdough, and worked hard to rescue the sea creatures from the nets and ties on the funky fingers table.
We made some lovely representations of the sea creatures that we were interested in; and our classroom is already full of jellyfish and starfish!
In maths we pretended to be mer people and worked on adding ‘1 more’ to our shell collections.
On Tuesday we learnt about St. George’s Day. Inspired by the colours of the English flag, we decided to use red and white ingredients in our cooking session – making a delicious ‘Eton mess’ desert.
We learnt the nursery rhyme, ‘Row, row, row your boat’, and shared our own experience of boats – and even submarines. As part of our ‘Switched on Science’ learning we decided to investigate which kind of materials might make a good boat. We tried some of our ideas out on the water. and made some fantastic boats out of junk modelling materials.
