This week in reception, we had a lot of fun exploring the music stand in the outdoor area. Miss Kuchel taught us the names of the different instruments – gong, cow bell, cymbal, tone block, Boomwhackers and triangle. We listened to the different sounds that they made and discovered that the smaller sized instruments made higher sounds and that the larger the instrument is, the lower the sound it makes. The children enjoyed using the pitch of the instruments to accompany us while we sang songs. We also explored dynamics, making the instruments louder and softer, by changing how hard we played the instruments. We used the tone blocks to keep the beat and put the beat in our feet whilst we chanted the rhyme ‘Engine, engine’. Some of the children even helped Miss Kuchel to play ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ and ‘Caterpillar’ using the notes on the Boomwhackers. We are looking forward to hearing the children create their own songs and accompanying themselves during independent learning!
