This week the Year 5 children have been testing to see whether a range of materials are electrical conductors or electrical insulators. The children have been learning about the properties of materials in Science and this week we spoke about electrical circuits and the various components needed to complete a circuit. We used light bulbs, batteries and wires in our circuits. The children were able to attach a number of objects into their circuits and then see whether the bulb still turned on or not. This helped them to establish whether the different materials were electrical conductors or insulators.
In their History lesson the children have been learning about the Mayans and we spoke about the different types of Mayan masks and why they were worn. The children had a chance to create and decorate their own Mayan mask and they look absolutely fantastic up on our display board!
We also explored some of the original Mayan cities and used an Atlas to uncover which countries they are today.
We are very fortunate in Year 5 to be involved with the ‘Get Islington Reading’ scheme and all of the children have now been sent home with a free book box. Can we please ask that parents complete and return the enclosed form. We can then pass these forms on to Islington who will hopefully be able to send us even more book boxes!
