This week started rather drearily – inverted commas on a Monday morning always goes down well.
However, little did they know that later in the day Mr Ferry and Mr Groarke would be demonstrating how important inverted commas can be to Google and Youtube.
Now, they’re interested.
Mr Ferry showed Year 6 how to access the code behind famous websites like Google and Youtube and how to manipulate them using an app called Google X-Ray and HTML code. The children had a go at changing the layout of other websites and, in doing so, they learnt the value of making sure your punctuation is accurate.
We heard later that one child ‘took over’ the school website and made some interesting changes and showed them to Mrs Noronha.
In Current Affairs, the children discussed the recent independence elections trying to take place in Spain at the moment. They debated whether or not this should happen and made links to Brexit, Scottish independence and Northern Ireland – what a cultured, well-informed bunch they are.
In Science, the children explored the effects of mixing yeast with warm water and sugar and measured how much CO2 was created before recording their results and drawing a graph for better clarity.
This week, Amethyst had their last prayer service. It was heart-warming to see so many parents and carers attend the service. The theme was one of thank-giving and being grateful for what we have. So, thank you very much for coming.
Finally, this week the children explore the Jewish faith and Rosh Hashana in particular. They discussed the importance of new beginnings in order to start again and cleanse yourself from sin.
And that was the week that was.
Homework Friday 3rd November
- Maths – We have given you a Maths worksheet to reinforce classroom learning.
- Times tables – Continue to practise your times tables for our weekly tables test. Practise these by chanting through them, going to the Times Tables songs on Mathletics, asking someone to test you, testing yourself, using look-cover-write-check, playing on ‘Hit the Button’ on Topmarks or J2Blast.
- Spellings – Please learn spellings for a test next week. Use Look, Cover, Spell, Check. We would then like you to use each of the spellings in a sentence. Try to make it an exciting sentence with correct punctuation. You will need to find out the meaning of the word first.
- English – Comprehension. Complete the activity on the sheet. Our focus this week is on retrieving information (2b).
Homework is due in for Wednesday 8th November.
Have a lovely weekend.
