Last week, Marlow’s mum came to tell Reception all about the Kafunjo Project in Uganda as part of our focus on caritas in religion. We heard about Bruno who set up a school for orphans so that they could access education. In the beginning, they used a church building but when they were no longer allowed to use the building, he taught them under a tree. He raised money to build a school building so that the children could have lessons inside. Marlow’s mum was part of a volunteer group that went help finish the building and work with the children. Ruby and Red class heard how the children are very poor and many do not have shoes. We also heard how a little bit of money can go a long way, for example, the cost of 3 paintbrushes in England can buy a child a new uniform and the cost of 2 potatoes in England can feed a child for 1 month.
The children were very moved by the presentation and are excited to hold the Ugly Bug Ball after the half term break on the 6th June to raise money for this great cause!
