This week in Reception, we have continued with Phase 2 Phonics, learning the sounds a, t and p as well as s. We have practiced writing our new sounds in as many places as we could- in the air, on our friends’ backs, in our writing area and even in sensory trays of oats and glitter! We also used these trays to find as many objects as we could starting with our new sounds. See if you can have a go at writing our new sounds again at home over the weekend.
In Maths, we have read ‘Rosie’s Walk’ to learn all about prepositional language- e.g. saying that something is on top of, behind, underneath etc. something else! We have played lots of fun games to practice using this language including making our own obstacle courses and Simon Says in the outdoor area!
Our learning in Understanding the World has focused on Diwali. We have learned that Hinduism is a different religion to Christianity, and that Diwali is one of their most important celebrations, remembering the victory of good over evil. We learned that Hindus make rangoli patterns on their floors, and that these are usually symmetrical- the same on both sides! We made our own rangoli from 2D shapes, decorated hand templates with our own mehndi patterns, learned a special Diwali dance, and had a go at writing our own Diwali cards for family and friends.
