We have had a fantastic fortnight in Year 1 doing all things Christmassy! We started last off by making Christmas decorations for our classrooms and our KS1 central area. We had lots of fun ‘elfifying’ ourselves and decorating our wonderful elf costumes! Our role play areas are now set up as Santa’s workshops for the children to enjoy in the coming weeks. We have been designing toys, making them and wrapping Christmas presents.
This Monday Amber and Orange Class arrived to find a very special visitor had appeared in our rooms- Santa had sent an elf on the shelf, to keep an eye on us over the next few weeks. The elf came with a letter from Santa himself!
In the letter Santa asked that we be extra kind to each other during the Christmas season. We decided to do a kindness secret Santa. Each child chose a name from the pot, the person they chose is going to be someone who they be really kind to over the next few weeks. In groups we brainstormed different ways we could be kind to each other during the season of Christmas.
We came up with some amazing kindness ideas such as:
“Helping a friend put their coat on”
“ Push in your friends chair”
“Draw a picture for your friend”
“Help your friend if the fall down”
“Give someone a compliment”
This week we have also been having fun doing some Design and Technology, making our Christmas Salt Dough Decorations!
We made our salt dough mixture, moulded our dough into Christmas decoration shapes, baked them in the oven and finally we got to decorate them with paint and glitter! They look amazing and we are so excited to sell them!
