It has been such an exciting week in Year 1! To end our Flight topic we had a DT week! We had our very own private jet pilot called Patrick come in to talk to us all about the super cool life of a pilot and how to always follow your dreams! So many of the children were inspired by the tales he told from when he was a very young boy to finally being able to do it as his career. It was SO exciting!
Our goal this week was to create paper mache hot air balloons. Like all great designers, we had to investigate hot air balloons and think about their main features – big balloon, strong basket and very importantly a brightly coloured pattern!
Then we had to write our design criteria and think about who we were making it for. This was really important as we needed make sure we thought about all the things our person liked before making the balloon. We practised different patterns and then everyone chose their favourite one for the design. Finally it was time to make our hot air balloons.
First we paper mached and then we had to paint our designs on them when they dried. It was very important that we kept to plans!
The balloons will be dry and ready to make into hot air balloons after half term!
We hope you have a lovely and restful half term. Enjoy the sunshine and see you in a week.
