This week has been feeling very Christmassy in Reception and our Early Years area. We started the week off by learning about advent and that it is a time to wait and prepare for Jesus’ birth. We learned that Jesus was born on Christmas day and how excited we are when we build up to our own birthdays. We shared ideas about how we have celebrated birthdays, traditions that happen and who we like to celebrate with. Sadly, for many of us birthday celebrations have not quite been the same so we decided to plan a birthday party for all the children to take part in for our class Bear. We wrote lists of what we would need, made cards for the Bear and even decorated biscuits for the birthday party! Our birthday celebration took part on Wednesday and we all enjoyed the experience of a birthday party with all of our school friends!
Thursday was another exciting day, with the children dressing up in their Christmas costumes and making lots of decorations for our classroom and our EYFS central area. We made stockings, candy canes, gingerbread men and wreaths! Our central area now has a stable and a Santa’s workshop role play area for the children to enjoy in the coming weeks. Children also helped to decorate our class Christmas trees and our home corner with all of the decorations we made!
In phonics, we have continued learning our phase 2 sounds and now know 6 sounds; s, a, t, p, i and n. In Maths, we have been learning about different ways to make 4 using different resources in our classroom! We also hear a story about Pete and his 4 groovy buttons that popped off one by one, focussing on working out ‘one less’.
We hope you all have lovely weekend and are getting into the Christmas spirit at home too! a
