On Monday 28th March St Josephs hosted a “fun” raising day entitled “Change for Change.” Pupils in Years 5 and 6 along with our pupil leadership groups (Chaplains, Eco-Warriors, Digital Leaders, Librarians and Sports Ambassadors) hosted stalls to support their groups, as well as raise funds for a range of charities such as Disaster Emergency Committee: Ukraine, Marie Curie, Cancer Research, WWF, Harington, UNICEF. Oxfam, Young Epilepsy and Ablegamers. The emphasis of the event was on pupils having some fun whilst making a difference. Events and items ranged from 25p to £1 and included cake sales, sweets, plants, toys, books, crafts, quizzes and sports
Using the “Parable of the Talents” we introduced the idea of pupils using their initiative to grow funds for a range of worthy causes. Each group was required to put in an application to explain their stall, as well as their chosen charity before receiving a loan of £10 to help set up their stall. All pupils in the school were encouraged to donate a nearly new toy and a book which they no longer want. The idea of helping others during Lent was further supported by encouraging children to choose their donations to support the idea of giving to others. Donations not sold were given to the local Toy Library.
The event raised an incredible £561.91.
