This week in Year 5 we celebrated St Patrick’s Day!
The children looked fantastic dressed in green and we danced, sung and drunk through the day! (Non-alcoholic beverages of course…)
For their Topic lesson the children designed and then created bridges using paper, paper clips and cellotape. We had discussed the different types of bridges, the structure of the bridges and the forces acting upon a bridge. The children then had to consider how they could use the resources to create a sturdy bridge. We had a competition to see who could create the longest and the strongest bridge and the results certainly were interesting.
In English the children have started writing their opinion pieces on whether they think Meghan and Harry were right to leave the royal family. We have been discussing the difference between fact and opinion and the children spent a day researching facts and evidence to help them to justify their opinion. It was so great to hear the range of opinions in the class and we’ve had some wonderful debates in the last week. We haven’t quite found the next Piers Morgan but we certainly did have some interesting conversations.
