Ok. Let’s just get this out of the way – without a doubt, the highlight of the week was the science demonstration in the hall on Tuesday. We were fortunate enough to have Dr Andrews from Highgate School treat us to whizzes, dry-ice smoke and BANGS! We’re not exaggerating when we say the hall literally shook when the last balloon filled with oxygen went pop!
The teachers had a difficult time engaging the children in anything other than science for the rest of the day.
In the lead up to National Poetry Day, Year 6 spent the week analyzing various poems which describe a natural setting including, ‘Toadstool Wood’ by James Reeves and ‘Lines Composed in a Wood on a Windy Day’ by Anne Bronte.
The children revised poetic techniques such as personification, alliteration and sibilance before writing their own descriptions of a natural setting.
Well done to the children of Violet class for a wonderful prayer service – it really captured what ‘new beginnings’ means for us as Christians.
And whilst Violet class kneaded some dough at Pizza Express, Amethyst were the lucky ones who got to try a ‘Let’s Think: Maths’ lesson with Mr Groarke(!) They investigated algebraic equations via trapezia.
We finished the week raising money for those affected by the recent hurricanes in the Caribbean. Year 5 and 6 visited each other’s classrooms to explore all things Caribbean and to understand why we need to help.
And that was the week that was.
