This week in St. Josephs nursery, we have been celebrating ‘Black History Month’. We read the books ‘Handa’s surprise’ and ‘Handa’s Hen’ and discussed the African setting and characters. It was interesting to explore what we already knew about Africa; some of us knew that some animals and people live in Africa and we looked at large maps and talked about where our families come from. We even roleplayed a class trip to Africa, swam across rough water and had tea there with the animals. We made masks and colourful African Necklaces and looked closely at real African fabrics. We danced to African rhythms and sang ‘Calele’ at circle time.
What a fun week. Thanks everyone and have a glorious break!
