Over the past couple of weeks in Religion, Year 1 have been learning about the sacrament of Baptism. We discussed how the church welcomes a baby through baptism. We learned that the sacrament of Baptism is an invitation to become a part of God’s family and that being part of God’s family means we belong to the Catholic Faith. Many of us said we had been to the Baptism of our younger siblings and cousins!
This week we role played a Baptism to give us a better understanding of what happens during the ceremony.
The families of the baby stood around the Baptismal font and the priest blessed the baby with holy water saying ” I baptise you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. The godparents were given a lighted candle to represent the light of Jesus that has come into the baby’s life.
We had fun experiencing the Baptism of our baby’s in Amber and Orange Class.
