This week we celebrated a very special day – World Book Day! World Book Day is a charity event held annually in the United Kingdom and Ireland on the first Thursday in March. The purpose was to show the pupils how wonderful ready truly is. We stress at St Joseph’s the importance of reading, and how it is the universal subject as without reading, we cannot access any other subject.
On Tuesday, the Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to go to the book fair, run by Ms. Rooney & Scholastic, to buy a book and receive their vouchers. Following the success of the book fair, on Thursday our pupils celebrated World Book Day in style. The Year 6 pupils came in dressed as a word, some came dressed as “comfortable” or “nonchalant” or “sporty”. Later that day, the Year 6 pupils spent some time with the Year 2 pupils, reading to them and listening to them read. In the afternoon, they then went to a World Book Day quiz hosted by Miss Nicholson & Miss Duffy. The Year 6’s were teamed up with other pupils from different year groups, and then had to answer questions about books they have read.
In the words of Dr Seuss, “The more that you read, the more you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go.”
