This week we have continued our ‘All About Me’ topic and started new learning in Maths and Phonics. We read ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson and looked at our family photos, discussing the similarities and differences between our families. We also read the story ‘Once There Were Giants’ while looking at the children’s baby photos, and talked about growing up and what jobs we might like to do when we are older.
In Phonics, we have been going on ‘sound hunts’ to find as many different sounds as we can in our indoor and outdoor areas. We knocked on the wooden fence, tapped on a plastic tray and found out that our metal monkey bars can make a lovely chiming sound! We had a go at seeing if we could copy these sounds ourselves.
In Maths, we have focused on matching and sorting. We have found lots of different ways to sort leaves, animals and other resources- by colour, by pattern, by size and more. We have even sorted different 2D shapes, and matched them to different items around the classroom.
Finally, in RE we learned that everybody has their own special name. We had lots of fun recognising our names, hidden around the classroom, and then choosing ways of decorating them!
